Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year
I am so excited to have your child in my class this year. I am looking forward to a very successful year and I know you are too. I have high expectations for each and every child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve their goals and my high expectations.
You can help. I will be expecting all work assigned in class to be completed. Of course, all children do not work at the same pace. Some children will get their work done in class and some will not. Whether or not your child gets his or her work done in class has no effect on their grade. If your child does not complete an assignment in class, he or she will be required to complete it at home. The way you can help is to ask your child every school day if school work needs to be done, and if so, make sure your child completes the assignment.
In addition, I will be assigning homework every day except Fridays. Each evening’s homework will be relevant to what we have done in class that same day. Homework is to be completed at home so I can see if they retained what was taught in class. Please do very little correcting or leading at home because this will help me curve my instruction to each and every students’ needs. Also, a very important part of homework this year is reading a self-picked story for at least 15-20 minutes. It is very important that this is being done each night. Reading stamina and fluency is a very important skill for every student.
Finally, I want you to know that one of my most important goals this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you. I am available every day to talk with you through email or you can leave a message on my classroom phone at 240-236-3164. I will try my very best to respond to all messages within 24 hours. I have also set up a Remind account that allows me to communicate important dates and reminders through text messaging. If you have not signed up already, please do so. I also love when parents come in to volunteer in the classroom. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering.
I appreciate your support and patience each and every day.
